Our end-of-year fundraising campaign for HMP Styal: thank you for your support!

This year, we launched our biggest ever public fundraising campaign, to raise vital funds for our work with women housed at HMP Styal. Thanks to all of you, we not only hit our target, but we exceeded it…

Over the space of seven days, we hoped to raise £10,000 to support our work behind the walls of HMP Styal. This project focuses on giving women in prison a voice, practical skills, and support both inside prison and on release, helping them stay motivated, grow creatively, and take positive steps towards life beyond prison.

Thanks to thousands of people who engaged with our work online, shouted about it far and wide, and hit the big blue donate button, we ended our week-long fundraiser on a grand and staggering total of £10,196.

This has been one of our toughest fundraising years in recent memory, so it’s quite hard to sum up just how much this successful campaign means, and just how significant the impact of this funding will be. But what we can say is we are beyond proud to be part of this ever-growing team of empathetic, powerful humans who truly understand the magic of radio. And we are beyond excited to continue delivering this work within the walls of HMP Styal for another year.

This funding will now ensure that up to 12 women receive intensive training and mentoring in radio production and presenting, in a safe space that allows them to rediscover their voices and embrace their creativity – along with opportunities to continue learning and working with us on release.

In 2025, we were proud to offer paid work in radio and podcasting to three people leaving HMP Styal – two of whom won Gold awards at The Audio Production Awards earlier this month. In 2026, we hope to boost those numbers even higher. There is so much talent in prisons, and we really do have so much proof of that.

Thank you so much, 10,196 times over. Together, you’ve ensured that women behind bars can start working toward brighter futures beyond them 🕊️

Oh, and in case you missed it, we kicked off the campaign with the release of our new film, Connection. You can still watch it below, and if you enjoy it, hit the blue button at the bottom of the page to vote for it to win a Smiley Charity Film Award. Voting closes 30th January 2026.
