National Prison Radio will be broadcasting a special show to celebrate Valentine’s Day and to help prisoners keep in touch with their loved ones.
National Prison Radio is celebrating the day of love with a special Family and Friends Request Show.
Spending Valentine’s Day inside can be very difficult. Missing family, friends and partners can feel even more significant this time of year, and that’s why National Prison Radio is helping people to stay connected with their loved ones.
We’ve been asking friends and family to get in touch with their Valentine’s song requests and messages for the Valentine’s special of the Family and Friends Request Show.
The Family and Friends Request Show allows people in prison to keep in touch with their loved ones on the outside. The show builds a community of support inside and outside of prison through song requests, written messages and voice recordings.
You request the song, tell us who it’s for, and we will play that message to that person whilst you also listen along at home – perfectly illustrating the power of radio.
Hosted by our award-winning Life After Prison podcast presenter Jules, it broadcasts every week on National Prison Radio, and it’s also available on Mixcloud so people can listen to it outside prison too.
Keeping in touch with loved ones whilst inside is so important. It combats loneliness, improves mental wellbeing and significantly reduces the potential of re-offending.
Statistically, prisoners who maintain family ties are nearly 40% less likely to reoffend.
If you haven’t already submitted your requests for your loved ones this Valentine’s Day, you can do so at www.nationalprisonradio.com. The deadline for requests is Sunday 9th February.
Please get these requests in as soon as you can so we can get them out to your loved ones in time. And once your request is sent, make sure you listen in!
For friends and family members outside of prison you can listen to the show here on Thursday 13th February.
And for your loved one inside, they just need to switch over to the National Prison Radio channel on the TV in their prison cell. Make sure they are tuned in a 1pm on Thursday 13th February.
If you miss out on your request this time, don’t worry we’ve got you covered!
The Family and Friends Request Show broadcasts every Thursday from 1-3pm, so if you haven’t already submitted your requests for your loved ones for 2025, you can do so here.
