NEW JOB VACANCY: Radio Producer at HMP Brixton! (Maternity cover)

Would you like to produce award-winning radio behind bars?

A rare opportunity has arisen to join our prison radio project at HMP Brixton, the beating heart of National Prison Radio. This job is maternity cover.

In this role, you will work alongside people in prison, and those who have previously been to prison, to create life-changing content for National Prison Radio.

As a key part of a small team of producers behind the walls of HMP Brixton in London, your productions
will help listeners make the most of their time behind bars. By supporting prisoner-producers you will
help them develop industry skills, creating content that builds an audience, encourages action and
provides much-need information and inspiration.

You will also have the unique responsibility and opportunity to produce our award-winning National Prison Radio show Free Flow, ‘the show where we play the beat twice so you can get your bars right’!

This show is all about helping our listeners in prison to hone their creative skills. Presenter Lady Unchained is a poet and mentor who first got the bug for writing while she was serving a prison sentence.

This year, Free Flow won a Gold Award at the radio industry’s prestigious ARIAS ceremony. You can read about this success here

Ours is an organisation unlike any other, and we’re particularly interested in hearing from people who have the required skills and have lived experience of the criminal justice system.

We’re looking for an experienced and technically proficient audio professional with a proven track record in producing and editing high-quality radio. Administrative skills, empathy, flexibility and editing skills are all essential for this role. Please set out clearly in your application how you meet these requirements.

Occasional travel to other prisons across the country may be required.

We’re a driven, tight-knit team working in what can be a challenging, exhilarating world, and you will be motivated by the knowledge that your work has the potential to make a real difference.
