Across the world, prison radio producers are doing something remarkable. Inside cells, studios, classrooms, offices, and makeshift recording spaces, people are telling stories that aren’t often heard, stories of humour, resilience, music, struggle, faith, reflection, learning, community and hope. From weekly news shows and cultural programmes, to music mixes, storytelling, harm-reduction information, debates, interviews and poetry hours, prison radio continues to prove that communication is not a luxury, but a lifeline.
Over the past year, the Prison Radio International Advisory Board has been working on a new Global Prison Radio Toolkit, built from the knowledge and experience of people running prison radio in very different systems, languages and countries. The aim is simple: to share what works, why it works, and how others can do it too.
But there is one question we haven’t yet answered, and you are the only people who can help us:

We recently shared an early draft of the Toolkit with new and established partners in Brazil. One of the strongest messages that came back was a request for practical, real-world examples of successful show formats from different parts of the globe.
They wanted to know: What kinds of programmes are most popular and impactful in other countries, and how do you make them?
We think that is an excellent question and it’s one that we believe the whole international community would benefit from.
So, we are inviting every member of the Prison Radio International network to take five minutes to tell us about one of your very best shows, big or small, old or new, broadcast or podcast, live or pre-recorded. If you have more than one show worth sharing, you are welcome to complete the form as many times as you like.
Available in English, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish
Why does this matter? Because we know that prison radio works and not just because we believe it, but because people keep telling us:

Your show might help a brand-new team choose their first format.
It might inspire someone to build a studio where there is none.
It might give a producer confidence, a listener comfort, or a policymaker clarity.
And you will, of course, be credited in the Toolkit!
Deadline: Wednesday 26 November 2025.
Thank you for everything you do, for every show, every idea, every person trained, every volunteer encouraged, every producer supported, every voice amplified and every ear reached.
Available in English, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish
