The Big Give Christmas Challenge is an annual week-long fundraising campaign that gives charities across the UK the chance to raise crucial funds and awareness for their projects. This year, we decided to take on the challenge – seeing it as an opportunity to really shout from the rooftops about the power of National Prison Radio.
Historically, we have kept a fairly low profile publicly, so this was a real leap of faith into the relatively unknown, and we could not be prouder of what we achieved together over the seven days – we jumped and you caught us with both arms.
Our aim was to raise £5,000, and after a nail-biting last 24 hours, we ended up hitting and surpassing this target, finishing the campaign on £5,053. We also clocked up nearly 25,000 views on our Instagram content alone, with 75% of people that tuned in being brand new followers.
The awareness and money raised will ensure that National Prison Radio – the world’s first national radio station for people in prison – can continue to run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and continue to change and save lives behind bars.
Thank you so much on behalf of everyone at the Prison Radio Association, for tuning in to our campaign content, for sharing our videos, for sharing your stories and experiences, for telling your mates about us, and for choosing to donate to support our work.
This has been a truly transformative experience for all of us here at the charity, and we look forward to this new exciting stage of our journey where we start to really build a community of people who understand and believe in the power of radio and podcasts.
